Budget Dorm Decoration Ideas!

Budget Dorm Decoration Ideas!

Can you believe it’s that time again so soon. Summer just flew by this year. It’s almost time to send your kids off to college. Dorm rooms can be so boring. The walls are off-white, the lighting isn’t the best, and the only furniture is usually a bed and a desk. If you’re lucky you have a closet.

Check out these budget dorm decoration ideas to spice up add your personality to your dorm room.

Most likely you won’t be able to paint your walls, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with bland. Measure the wall from top to bottom and side to side. Find fabric you like, soak it in liquid fabric starch and adhere it to the walls. It is easy to remove and can be reused. You can also use posters or other wall art.

Your dorm bed is not going to be the most comfortable bed you’ve ever slept on. Chances are it will have drawers in it to store clothing. Find a great comforter and bedding to make a statement. Add extra pillows to create a daybed look or find an accent rug which coordinates with the fabric you’ve chosen for the bedding.

Raise your bed with bed lifters if you can for extra storage.

Your dorm room will come with overhead lighting and a fluorescent lamp on the desk. Neither is very flattering and may not provide the best light. You can use a floor lamp to add interest as well as mirrors to make the room look larger. You may also want to add white rope lights can also be helpful when trying to change the lighting in your room.

Chances are you’ll have a roommate with the same lovely furniture you have. Try different ways to arrange the furniture in the room. Rather than having a bed and desk on one wall, try arranging the beds in an L-shape. This will leave a space in the corner to place shelves or a table.

Don’t forget to bring items which remind you of home. Pictures, plants and your favorite stuffed animal can help you avoid homesickness, but they can also be a focal point upon which to decorate your half of your dorm room. Having familiar items around you may also help you study.

Try these budget dorm decoration ideas even if you don’t live in a dormitory. These same ideas can be used whenever you have a small area to decorate. Your dorm room is a temporary dwelling. Consider the space you have and then try to make the most of it.

What is your favorite way to spice up your dorm room?

Night Time, Day Time, Anytime - We Dance!
We love love to dance! Night time, day time, anytime! We love to dance and move!  Here are some tips on how to host a fun dance party.

Create the perfect setting for one awesome dance party!  Start with the guest list. Ask your child who they’d like to attend. Set the stage by decorating with bright, cheerful colors. If you have a disco ball and flashing lights, dig them out to lend credence to the atmosphere you’re trying to create. Purchase great music to dance! I suggest Kidz Bop CDS! We love Kidz Bop CDs.

Prepare foods you know your child and their friends will eat. Pizza bagels are a great option so each child can have their own personal pizza. Even PB&J cut into fun shapes would work too! Make find a music note cookie cutter to cut the sandwiches in to awesome music note shaped sandwiches.

Play fun musical games to get the children moving. Limbo under a stick or freeze dance to get everyone started.  After the ice is broken I’m sure they will just dance the day away! Host a dance party your child will enjoy no matter what age they are.  And since you know children love to move, you’ll provide them with a great party. Have you ever seen a sad dancer? Yea, me neither!

What are some of your ideas for a great dance party?
