Great Ways of Celebrating Spring with Your Young Children!

Great Ways of Celebrating Spring with Your Young Children!

After a long winter, your children may have spring fever. I know I do!! Are you looking for great ways of celebrating spring with your young children? These ideas may provide you with things you can do together, or get your creative juices flowing to come up with activities of your own.

Get Outside!

* Go fly a kite. Children love to fly kites. Springtime is perfect for this activity. The winds are often blustery and will make a kite soar through the sky.

* Go on a picnic. Young children yearn to be outdoors after being cooped up all winter. Pack a lunch, a blanket and bundle the children up to enjoy a picnic as early in the spring as you can.

* Go to the park. Let your children run and play at the park. Walk around and look for the signs of spring such as flowers blooming, insects and trees budding out.

* Go for a bike ride. Bike rides are a great activity for young children to celebrate spring. This will allow them to burn off excess energy and get much-needed exercise.

* Make a bird house. Spring is the time birds make their way back to our yards. Wouldn’t it be great to provide them with a new home? These can be made with kits you can purchase or small pieces of wood. Instructions can be found in craft books as well as online.

* Plant a garden. Most children love to get their hands dirty and enjoy watching things grow. Prepare a small area in your yard for your children to plant a small garden. Let them choose to plant flowers, vegetables or both.

Stay Inside!

Sometimes in early spring the weather varies from day to day. There might be sunshine and blue skies one day. The next day it may be cold and rainy. Luckily, you can also celebrate spring indoors if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

* Go through magazines and find images of spring. Allow young children to cut out pictures of flowers, baby animals or other things associated with spring. Then let them create a springtime scrapbook by gluing the pictures on colored paper. This activity will help young children improve manual dexterity as well as help them recognize items related to a specific season.

* Bake springtime cookies. Start with simple sugar cookie dough. Roll the dough out to about 1/4” thick. Let your young children use spring-related cookie cutters. These might include four-leaf clovers, lambs, flowers, butterflies or birds. You can also decorate the cookies using pre-made frosting, candies or colored sugar.

* Make paper flowers. Using pastel-colored tissue paper, cut out circles of different sizes. Pinch the center of the circle and draw your hand over it to the ends. Do this with all of the tissue circles. Gather several of these together to create a flower and then twist or tie these together. Wrap the ends with green chenille stems to act as the flower’s stem.

These are a few of the great ways of celebrating spring with your young children. Think of the things your children enjoy and try to incorporate them into spring’s days. You will enjoy being together and possibly outdoors where you can enjoy the great springtime weather.

What are some of your favorite activities to do in Spring?

Fun Easter Activities for the Whole Family!

Fun Easter Activities for the Whole Family!!!

It’s not easy to find cheap and fun Easter activities for the whole family. You may want to use some of the ideas which follow to try with your own family.

You don’t have to wait until Easter Sunday to enjoy cheap and fun Easter activities for the whole family. In fact, some activities are better planned and enjoyed prior to that day. For instance, if your little ones need new Easter outfits, you can make a fun day out of shopping. Take periodic breaks to sit down and enjoy a bite to eat or find a play place for the children to blow off some steam.

One of the easiest activities for the whole family to be involved in is dyeing Easter eggs. Obviously parents will want to handle anything pertaining to the stove, but children will love decorating the eggs. They can use different colored dye, white crayons, stickers and other items to create one-of-a-kind eggs. If you’re not using real eggs, you can help your children embellish plastic eggs and have just as much fun.

After the eggs are decorated you’ll want to start thinking about where you can hide them. Go ahead and look around the house – both inside and outside – in case the weather isn’t good on Easter morning. Jot down some ideas and put the list somewhere the kids won’t find it. You’ll be a step ahead of the game when Easter morning arrives. (Don’t forget to write down where you’ve hidden the eggs, particularly the hard-boiled ones, so you can recover the ones your children might miss and avoid smelling up the area.)

Get into the kitchen and make some Easter treats. Children love to help their parents cook so why not take advantage of it? Look through cookbooks, magazines or the internet to find recipes everyone in the family will enjoy. Think about Easter brunch recipes or desserts which are family favorites.

You’ll want to be sure the recipes you choose will give the children something to do: measure and add the ingredients, knead or roll out dough, cut cookies out using cookie cutters and then decorate the cookies. Depending upon how many goodies you make, you may want to take some to a shut-in loved one or neighbor and spread a little bit of Easter joy.

Plan an Easter picnic. If the weather isn’t warm enough or is rainy, you can set up the picnic indoors. Push furniture against the wall and toss your blanket in the living room. One benefit of not having the picnic outdoors is you can avoid competing with ants.

These are only a few cheap and fun Easter activities for the whole family. You can make any activity one that you can all enjoy if you include the children in them. Ask them to help you clean the house if you’ll be having company over. Even that can be a fun activity if you play peppy music and make a game out of it.
